Regional Agency for Agriculture and Food (RAAF) workshop in Lome

To streamline its interventions and avoid duplication between the partners, the agency prefers to ensure the synergy and coherence.

For this purpose, it gathered in Lome from March 25 to 27, 2019, the steering committee meetings of ECOWAP/CAADP projects under RAAF coordination and advisory committee meeting of RAAF to review the activity reports of the past year and the work program and budget for the following year.

"What we expect from you is relevant recommendations and solutions approaches to better support the actors on the ground for a better implementation of all the projects and programs of our regional policy," urges M Kolani Dindiongue, representative of Togolese minister in charge of agriculture.

Headquartered in Lome (Togo), the RAAF finances mini field projects at local level in all the countries of the Economic Community of West African States.

"The areas covered by the calls concern climate change, the agro-ecological transition, livestock development, jobs and training for young rural people," explains Alain SY TRAORE, Director of Agriculture and Rural Development of ECOWAS.

According to the executive director of the RAAF, Salifou Ousseini, the projects financed by his agency directly reaches the beneficiary populations

"We choose the actions that are promising and can be scaled up. For example, we have a project in North-Togo that has helped improve the school attendance of girls from 16% to 51%," he stressed.

Reflections are therefore underway to allow the RAAF continue on the ground, the dynamics engaged in the implementation of the regional agricultural policy.
