Togo's exports to Benin concern mainly "bags, jackets, plastic cones", cosmetics or make-up products and refined palm oil and its fractions. According to this report, India is Togo's third largest customer with 15.9 billion CFA, a relative share of 7.2% respectively compared to 12.3 billion CFA and 5.0% in the first half of 2017.
Exports to India relate mainly to "other flat rolled products of iron or non-alloy steel, not plated or coated". To WAEMU member states, Togolese exports in the first half of 2018 amounted to 111.9 billion CFA for 50.5% of the total value of exports, respectively compared to 119.9 billion CFA and 49.3% in first half of 2017.
The first three WAEMU customers of Togo at the end of the first six months of 2018 are respectively Burkina Faso, Benin and Niger. Exports to these countries account respectively for 39.5%, 19.9% and 12.7% of the total value of exports to the Union.
"Burkina-Faso imported mainly from Togo unsprayed cements called clinkers and bags, jackets and cones made of plastic," said the report.
At the same time, Togo exported a total of 135.7 billion CFA to ECOWAS member states, for 61.2% of the total value of exports, respectively compared to 149.0 billion CFA. 61.3% in the first half of 2017.
However, it should be noted that "Togo's exports to the European Union (EU) reached 6.5 billion in the second quarter of 2018, for 5.7% of the total value of exports, respectively compared to 5.8 billion CFA and 4.8% in the second quarter of 2017 ".
"France, Portugal and Germany are respectively, first, second and third customers of Togo in the EU," says the report.
Cotton: Togo's 1st export product
Overall, in the first six months of 2018, the exports reached 22.7 billion CFA against 243.1 billion CFA a year earlier, a decrease of 8.8%. The weight of exports is 1,414,085.2 tons against 1,560,666.1 tons for the same period.
Cotton (excluding linters), not carded or combed, is the leading export product with 27.9 billion CFA, a relative share of 12.6% against respectively 34.2 billion CFA and 14.1% in the first six months of 2017.
Natural phosphates of calcium, natural aluminum-calcium phosphates and phosphatic chalks are the second largest export product with 21.9 billion CFA, for 9.9% of the total value of exports against 20.1 billion CFA and 8.3 % at the end of the first six months of 2017.
Plastic bags, jackets, and cones made of plastic are the third largest export product with 19.0 billion CFA, a relative share of 8.6% respectively compared to 18.3 billion CFA and 7.5% in the first semester 2017.
